We recently had the pleasure of working with artist Joanna Kessel on her installation at Glasgow Cathedral. St Mungo’s Well was excavated and brought back to life with nearly a thousand glass tiles, hand blown in Venice and brushed with 24-carat gold leaf.
Each tile was then cut and shaped in at Orsoni Venezia 1888 in Italy and hand selected by Joanna. They were then placed carefully by hand by our tiling instructor Antony into three separate rings, before being installed into the Well. We were delighted to be on hand to assist with the fixing process and see Joanna’s vision brought to life. Last week, we attended a Well Concert at Glasgow Cathedral where we viewed the final installation, followed by a haunting concert in darkness!
This project is an inspiring example for any tilers who want to get creative!
