About the course

On this intensive multi-skilled course, you will train for 6 weeks, completing 2 weeks in each of Plumbing, Plastering and Wall & Floor Tiling.

(Eligible for Armed Forces Resettlement funding and Enhanced Learning Credits)

Wall & Floor Tiling

This is a comprehensive wall and floor tiling course will provide you with the skills and knowledge necessary to take on tiling work, including:

Application appreciation (adhesive selection, admixtures, grouts, compounds)
Mixing adhesives
Background preparation
Tile cutting board
Diamond set framed
Tile around sink with mitred border
Hole cutting
Tile around window including reveals and trim work
Grouting
Tile kitchen splash back with trim and mitre cuts and grout
Tiling and setting out floors
Pricing quotations
Natural stone
Tanking systems
Mosaic borders
Setting out a bathroom (laser levels/water levels)
Uncoupling membranes and movement joints (Schluter systems)

Plumbing

You will gain a great understanding of domestic central heating systems and water and waste systems. Including:

Hot and cold water systems
Types of central heating systems
How to drain different types of central heating systems
How to fill different types of central heating systems
How to install radiators and pipe them up
Installation of towel warmers
De-commission of central heating systems (not including gas appliances)
Fault finding on central heating systems
New bathroom installation

Plastering

This course covers rendering, beading, bonding coats, plaster-boarding, tape jointing, dot and dabbing and lots of plastering practice.  You will gain a good knowledge of all plastering stages including:

Preparation of backgrounds prior to render
Application of render
Finish wall to scratch coat
Level and float wall
Beading (cutting and setting)
Plasterboard walls, ceilings and reveals
Tape joints
Dry lining
Skimming walls and ceilings
Dot and dab walls with electrical sockets
Patch repair
